Mystery Photo

We have an answer from Matt Kimball, who tells us this cemetery is on Coffeetown Road next to Al Johnson's field. He's correct; this is the Dearborn Cemetery, located right next to Amazeen Stables and across from #12 Coffeetown Road. The cedars in the front have grown very large and the stone walls have begun to crumble, surrounded on all sides by encroaching saplings. The burials, dating from the mid 1800s, are Dearborns for the most part, John S. Robinson, Julian Robinson and John Edward Robinson being among the exceptions. Edward Dearborn, b. Feb. 13, 1749 and d. May 16, 1792, was a Revolutionary War soldier.

Deerfield has more than 100 cemeteries, many of them small family plots, often marked only with fieldstones and lost in overgrown wooded lots.
If you are interested in identifying more of Deerfield's cemeteries, you can find a complete survey done by town historian Joanne Wasson at the town library.
